If an error message warns you that your account has been locked or disabled, which may occur after numerous unsuccessful login attempts, then log in to the AD Accounts page with your NetID and password to unlock your account. Wrong password attempts may also occur from other sources, such as changing your password while logged in to multiple workstations. Your account may also be locked because of external malicious password attempts, such as in a Denial of Service (DoS) attack.
The lockout is designed to protect your password and your account from being "hijacked." In any case, you can immediately unlock your Active Directory account by following these instructions.
1. Go to https://www-s.ad.uiuc.edu/unlock/.
2. Log in using your NetID and NetID password.
3. Beneath "Account Active," you will see one of two messages:
- If your account was locked, you will see: "[Your Name], your account has been unlocked."

- If your account was not locked, you will see: "[Your Name], your account was not locked."

4. Click the "Logout" button in the lower-right corner of the screen.
