Configuring Windows 2000/XP Computers to Log On Using UIUC NetID

Requirements

  • Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003 machine joined to ad.uiuc.edu
  • Administrator access on client computer.

Procedure

1. Run the KSETUP.EXE command line tool using the following commands exactly as they appear:

ksetup.exe /RemoveRealm UIUC.EDU
ksetup.exe /Addkdc UIUC.EDU kerberos1.uiuc.edu
ksetup.exe /Addkdc UIUC.EDU kerberos2.uiuc.edu

  • The ksetup utility is part of the Windows Support Tools, available on the distribution CD in the SUPPORT\TOOLS directory.

2. Restart your computer (only necessary if running Windows 2000 Professional)

3. Log in with your UIUC NetID and Password. Computer users may now log on in one of two ways:

A. Type the username netid@UIUC.EDU and the NetID password.
B. Click the "Options" button to display domains

  • Select UIUC.EDU (Kerberos Realm)
  • Use UIUC NetID for the username and NetID password for password
