A: There is information on Organization Units (OU) on the Other Information
section of the site (http://www.ad.uiuc.edu/info/). The pages contain
information on what OUs are and how they fit in to your working environment.
After reading this information, you can apply for an OU. This form should be
completed only by system administrators at the University of Illinois. |
A: To set or change your Active Directory password, you must log in to the CITES Password Home Page using your NetID and NetID password. Once you access the page, enter and confirm your new password. For complete instructions, see the Reset Your AD Password page.
A: To reset your AD password more than once within 24 hours, you need to contact the Active Directory Support Team using the Contact Us web form.
A: You may receive this error, "Login or path could not be found," if you have previously changed NetIDs. You will need to contact the Active Directory Support Team with the exact error message and the date on which you experienced the problem. Use the Contact Us web form to submit this information.
A: Even though your NetID username is the same as your AD username, the passwords for each account are different. When you changed your NetID password, you did not change your AD password. Try logging in to your workstation using your AD username and password (the password you previously used to log in). Your AD account may be locked if you attempted to enter the wrong password too many times. Please see the Unlock Your Account page for instructions. If you would like further information about your passwords, please see the Guide to Passwords page.
A: To unlock your account, you must log in to the AD Account Unlock Page with your NetID and NetID password. For complete instructions, see the Unlock Your Account page.
A: Your Active Directory account, used for CITES NetFiles and by some departments for office workstations or computer labs, will be locked if you enter the wrong password several times in a row. Wrong password attempts can also occur from other sources, such as changing your password while logged in to multiple workstations. Your account may be locked because of external malicious password attempts, such as in a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. This is extremely rare. The lockout is designed to protect your password and your account from being hijacked. In any case, you can immediately unlock your Active Directory account by following the instructions found on the Unlock Your Account page.
A: Some resources that rely on the UIUC AD account authentication are computer logins, Exchange accounts, and restricted web sites. When you connect to an AD-authenticated web site, you will be prompted for your username and password. You will be prompted for your AD username and password, and possibly the domain.
A: The information for your AD account is obtained directly from NESSIE. Students will find information regarding name changes in the Enterprise Applications Student and Faculty Self Service page. Once you have logged in with your NetID and password, click the "Personal Information" link, and then the "Name Change Information" link. The Name Change Information page gives you detailed information on the name changing process, such as the documents you will need to present to the Office of Registration and Records. University employees will find information regarding name changes in NESSIE on the Personal Information tab on the Name Change page. On this page, you will find a link for the "Name and Social Security Number (SSN) Change Form," which you should fill out and submit to your unit supervisor with the necessary documentation. Once your information is updated in the University system, it will be reflected in the AD Global Address List. If you have more questions about this process, please contact the CITES Help Desk.
A: The Active Directory system is updated to include newly created NetIDs once every 24 hours.
A: Your Active Directory username is the same as your NetID username; however, the NetID and AD passwords are different. For more information on your passwords, see the CITES Guide to Passwords.
